Mini Museum Explorers: Wartime Christmas

Designed for under 5s and their parents, grandparents, and carers, each session delves into a different part of the Museum’s collections through a blend of play, stories, trails, crafts, and science activities. These sessions encourage development, communication, and curiosity about the Royal Engineers and the world around us.

Held on the second Tuesday of each month (Term Time) from 10am-11am.

£4 per session per child (discounts with a Snob loyalty card); free for military families. Normal museum admission prices also apply.

Tuesday 8th December – Wartime Christmas

Christmas is a time of celebration and tradition, but during wartime it was much simpler. Mini Museum Explorers will learn how Christmas was marked during difficult times through short stories and historical images. Minis will sing carols like those once sung in the trenches and create homemade decorations to hang on a Christmas tree. They will also craft a mini wooden toy inspired by wartime toys, and explore how gifts and celebrations were different in the past. Through music and hands-on activities, children will discover how people found joy and togetherness at Christmas, even in challenging times
