Throughout our digital Wartime Christmas event we’re showcasing a range of fantastic local businesses, to show our support and encourage our followers to #shoplocal!
In today’s blog we’re getting to know Laura, the founder of Lolly’s Loft, where she creates & sells handmade arts and crafts including pebble pictures, homemade fudge and chocolates.
Tell us about yourself! When did you start crafting?
For many years I have enjoyed baking for others and making them smile. Every Christmas I make family hampers with their favourite things in including fudge and some hand made art work, so they can have a little treat.
‘I am inspired by the seasons, by what I am growing in my garden and by the celebrations we all love’.
At the end of last year, I was fortunate enough to visit Jersey, one of my favourite places in the world, not least because my best friends live there, and I was inspired by the pebble art they produced and decided to have a go myself. That lead to Lolly’s Loft being formed, earlier this year, as a way of sharing these with others and a creative outlet to the many ideas I have.
What got you into it?
I had been making fudge and presents for friends and family for many years for special occasions, and it wasn’t until one of them suggested I should sell it that I gave it some real thought.
Lolly’s Loft is my way of sharing the craft I make, in both art and yummy treats.
How do you get new ideas?
I am inspired by the seasons, by what I am growing in my garden and by the celebrations we all love such as Halloween, Valentines day and of course Christmas. Sometimes I ask for ideas on my Facebook page, and customers like to challenge me. I hope I always rise to the challenge as I have some excellent tasters at home who love to rate the products first.
What’s your favourite thing to create for Christmas?
I love making mini Christmas hampers, Chocolate Baileys fudge spoons for a cheeky Christmas coffee and my favourite fudge has to be mincemeat fudge.
What are some of your most popular items?
Gin and tonic and mint choc chip fudge are always a sell out, monthly fudge club has growing numbers and the new fudge filled cookies have had fantastic feedback.
We had to ask you some Christmassy ones too! Do you have a favourite Christmas song?
Oh yes, it has to be “It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas!”
Do you have any must-do Christmas traditions?
We always feed the reindeer on Christmas eve, sprinkling in the garden for when they’re waiting for Santa; and we always track Santa’s sleigh across the sky with the help of the app.
And finally, what’s your favourite thing to eat at Christmas?
For me it has to be cheese and biscuits with a little port … oh now that gives me an idea of port fudge!
