Museum Detectives at Half Term

May 30, 2017 @ 10:30 am - June 2, 2017 @ 5:00 pm

Join us this half term as we reveal some of the objects in the stores. Find out about the jobs that museum Curators do to keep objects looking their best in one of our family friendly* activities.

Time Drop-in: 10:30am – 1pm and 1.30pm- 3:30pm

Tuesday 30th May – Rusty swords

See a live experiment in front of your eyes: learn about humidity and whether metals corrode. Be inspired by the experiment to create a rust free sword fit for any museum display, out of card and metallic paper.

Wednesday 31st May – Mystery Box

Find out how museum curators care for artefacts in the museum collection, watch as Curators explore boxes to find mystery objects. Construct and decorate your own museum styled box to keep your most valuable objects in.

Thursday 1st June – Light Damage

Join us in an experiment to find out how museum objects react to light and cause them to change colour. Create a lasting sun print to remind you of how sunlight can damage objects.

Friday 2nd June – Museum masterpiece

Inspired by the Museum’s collection and the mysterious, hidden objects that are being re-discovered during the Museum’s audit. Create your own museum masterpieces on canvas complete with a vintage frame.

* Normal Admission prices apply. Ticket Valid for 12 months on gift aided entrance. Suitable for age 3+ but all are welcome. £2 per activity per child (stamp cards available: buy 5 different activities and get 6th activity free!)
