Half Term Family Activities
October 24, 2017 @ 10:00 am - October 27, 2017 @ 5:00 pm£2
During October half term we will be focusing on the Street Art which covered the largest canvas in the world: the Berlin Wall. Discover why the Wall was so popular with artists from all over the world and what styles and techniques they were using to create Street Art. Even the youngest of visitors will have plenty of inspiration to contribute to the Museum’s expressive mural! Join us on Friday 27th October for our drop in crafts delivered in BSL in association with @SEEandCREATE with lead artist Christopher Sacre.
Time Drop-in: 10:30am – 1pm and 1.30pm- 3:30pm
Tuesday 24th October – Stencil art
One of the most common ways people created Street Art on the Berlin Wall was by using stencils they had created. Cut out your own stencil design to create your masterpiece that can be used in the Museum’s mural and on your own wall hanging.
Wednesday 25th October – Wheat paste
The Berlin Wall was covered in posters drawn by people who later decided to display them in public. These pictures and posters were stuck to the wall using wheat paste. Create your own pictures to be ironed onto a fabric shoulder bag ready to take home.
Thursday 26th October – Freehand
Much of the Art on the Berlin Wall was created by people expressing their feelings. They drew freehand to create and draw something to represent their mood. Use your imagination to create your own design onto a zippy purse and understand how people felt about the Berlin Wall.
Friday 27st October – 3-Dimensions (Delivered in BSL in association with @SEEandCREATE Lead Artist: Christopher Sacre)
While the Berlin Wall was thought of as a large, smooth canvas, it did not stay completely flat. Artists would stick objects to the Wall or create optical illusions to make it look 3D. Design your own 3-D image out of clay inspired by objects on display in the Museum.
