Chinese Leaflet 2017 web

14th-17th February 2017

Throughout this half term holidays join us as we run a host of family-friendly* creative activities, celebrating Chinese New Year (the year of the Rooster), and Charles Gordon’s close connection with China.

Time Drop-in: 10:30am – 1pm and 1.30pm- 3:30pm

Tuesday 14th February: Dragons At The Ready!
Chinese dragons traditionally symbolise power, strength, and good luck. The Emperor of China presented Gordon with a beautiful blue silk jacket with a gold dragon embroidered on it. Get creative and decorate your own jacket shaped trinket box, using metallic pens and stickers.

Wednesday 15th February: Chinese Patterns and Prints!
On display in the Museum are a collection of beautiful Chinese silks. Using inspiration from their patterns and prints, turn a fabric shoulder bag into a work of art.

Thursday 16th February: Rooster Decoration!
This year is the Year of the Rooster. In Chinese culture, the Rooster represents fidelity and punctuality, as it wakes people up on time. The Rooster is the tenth symbol in the 12 year cycle of the Chinese Zodiac. In celebration of this new symbol, join us to make a felt Rooster decoration.

Friday 17th February: Chinese Chao Guan Hat!
Gordon was awarded beautiful gifts of clothes and hats which showed his status as a high ranking official. Create your own Chinese Official’s formal winter Chao Guan hat just like Gordon’s, covered with red tassels, feathers and topped with gem stones.

* Normal Admission prices apply. Ticket Valid for 12 months on gift-aided entrance. Suitable for age 3+ but all are welcome. £2 per activity per child (loyalty cards available! Buy 5 different activities and get the 6th activity free)
