The students arriving in Medway for their first year will no doubt be looking to explore the surrounding area. While the campus provides basic necessities such as accommodation, food and drink, plenty more can be found in town. If you’re looking for a way to spend the day while checking out the university’s seminar rooms and lecture theatres, the Historic Dockyard is an 18 minute walk away from the Medway Campus. For £21.50 on the day, a ticket is valid for 12 months, if you are passionate enough about ships to return throughout the year.
A slightly shorter distance is the Royal Engineers Museum, for which the entry is free. There is a new exhibition on the Battle of the Somme, and the tour should take less than an hour. It is also a short detour from the way into the town centre. Moreover, it is a few minutes away from the park and the playing fields on Brompton Road, for which the weather may just be nice enough to visit and maybe even have a picnic.
The Royal Engineers Museum is a great place to visit with friends or with visiting family and provides insight into one of the bloodiest battles in history.
